Wesley Church Council Meeting 8 November 2022

Report to Congregation

Director of the Wesley Music Centre, Liz McKenzie kindly spent time showing Council members progress on post flooding and hail damage refurbishment work in that section of the Wesley buildings.

Council noted that, having taken into consideration other calendar and choristers constraints,  Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at 7.30 pm on Thursday 1 December. It is hoped to be possible to stream that service for the benefit of those further afield, such as Gunning, who might wish to join.

Elders will participate in a training evening with some added Christmas focus on Tuesday 6 December.  Rev’s Karyn and Gareth are preparing the material for that workshop.

Church Council will next meet on Tuesday 13 December. Given the busyness of the calendar for those involved, there will not be a combined Elders and Councillors end of year event this year.

Sunday afternoon Tea and Play this Sunday 13 November will be ‘Getting Ready for Christmas’ and on 11 December, ‘Celebrating Christmas in our Lives’.

Parish Life Annual Meeting has been set for Sunday 19 February 2023. Each church affiliated group is asked to begin creating a report  to be received at Wesley Office by 27 January 2023.

The content of such reports should be:

  • Highlights of the year past
  • Hopes for the year to come

Inclusion of a photo or copiable visual explanation would be most welcome.

Offertory Envelopes  In order to clarify who is still needing envelopes for this form of giving, a letter is being sent to those whom we have recorded as previously receiving envelopes. We are aware that many now prefer to use Electronic Funds Transfer.  We need to know the preferred mode of giving. The financial amount is not being recorded.

Volunteer Records are being updated and once procedures have been trialled by leaders there will be a wider distribution of information.

Council proceeds with ensuring governance, procedural and safety documentation is updated for aspects of our parish life. Implementing Conflict Transformation Report Recommendations is part of this work. Terms of Reference for a duly elected Property Management Committee have been drafted and will now be considered by the existing Property Working Group.

Thank you for the feedback received thus far!!

We now have a coordinator and a date!

Saturday 18 March 2023 can be recorded in your calendar.

Ann Sutton will be the coordinator

The more volunteers there are to assist with running or preparing for stalls, the more successful will be our involvement of the community and money raising efforts for ourselves and others.
