WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING 13 July 2023 Report to Congregation

WHAT DOES CHURCH COUNCIL DO?

Church Council is charged with oversight of the congregation’s worship, mission and outreach. Having received background reason(s) for notable changes in policy or practice, it is the role of Council to determine what action is required. Such consideration is facilitated when accompanied by a clearly proposed way forward. Council business is most desirably received in written form by the Council Secretary a week in advance of the meeting to allow members’ prayerful consideration.

Council recognised the work of the current Children and Youth Ministry Leadership Group Tharu Tayshete, Adele Jurd, Corinne Bruen and Brenda Neale as they seek to encourage and enable this component of the congregation’s spiritual growth and nurture.

Wesley Audio Visual Project: Installation of the new system is now proposed for the week commencing 3 September. It is anticipated that church lighting will be updated in that same week. Donations to the Special Appeal for funding this project currently stand at $40,000, with a target of $75,000.

Property: Ongoing maintenance and prioritised upgrading of property is ongoing. Insurance work continues with replacement of roof in Lancaster Hall and repair and painting of the ceiling in Wesley Hall. Particularly challenging is the replacement of a very old electricity switchboard for that end of the complex. Property committee and office staff support Keith Hart and Chris Chenoweth in their constant diligence and prioritising of work by congregational volunteers and contractors.

Wesley Music Foundation (WMF) Board: After careful consideration of nominations, Council appointed Simon Cowling, Jenny Dean, John Ma and Stan Sismey. These terms are until June 30 2026. We wish them well as they contribute to the work of this Wesley activity.

Congregational AGM (Finance) to consider accounts 2022- 2023 and budget 2023 - 2024. Thorough work by the Treasurer and Finance Committee in the last 12 months has enabled this meeting to be scheduled for 10 September, following a combined service at 10.00 am
