Wesley Church Council Meeting 11 April 2024

Report to Congregation

New Church Council Member Sonia Di Mezza, was warmly welcomed to her first meeting of Church Council. Sonia brings another voice to represent the diversity of our congregation, respect differences and work together for growth and faith.

Supply Ministry: Council considered congregational appreciation of work by Rev Bruce Stevens also his availability for increased time as finances allow. It was decided to increase the Supply Ministry of Rev Bruce Stevens from the current 15 hours per week to 20 hours per week, effective from 1 May and until 31 December 2024, subject to Presbytery and Synod approval. It was noted Rev Bruce led a helpful inservicing session for Elders on the subject of confidentiality at their 7 April meeting.

Progress is being made with summarising results from the congregational planning day in May 2021 as we seek to update our Mission Plan. All members are reminded of the importance of congregational hospitality and inviting others to groups and worship.

Compliance: David Benger has been scoping compliance requirements of both the Uniting Church and government alongside Wesley’s record keeping. If working with vulnerable people on Wesley grounds or in the name of our congregation, a WWVP card is required. Safe churches and/or ethics training is required of some leaders. Training is available in person and online. This may also be of interest to congregational members who wish to be better informed. Please speak to David Benger, Tarlie Alcock or Susan Akhurst for further information.

Wesley Uniting Church Banner: is housed in the Property storeroom. Requests to use the banner/flag outside of Wesley church grounds should receive prior approval by Church Council or by a Council designated individual or individuals. It should not be used as a mark of authority to speak on behalf of the congregation.

Susan Akhurst, Tarlie Alcock, Paul Chen, Sonia Di Mezza, Rev. Geoff Dornan, Keith Hart, Robert James, Jan Sismey, John Sutton. Apology Jenny Dean
