WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING 8 JUNE 2023 Report to Congregation

WHEN DOES COUNCIL MEET? Meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday each month to deal with policy. Action on reports is enabled when accompanied by a rationale and proposal; preferably a week in advance of the meeting to allow for consideration.

Safe Churches Policies of NSW/ACT Synod were formally adopted for Wesley. Links to this material will be uploaded to our Wesley website (it can also be found on the NSW Synod website in the Safe Church Unit resources). Copies will be sent to all Church groups. Synod is conducting Safe Church training in Canberra on 4 November and in other regional areas throughout the year. If you are interested in attending, please contact the Office or speak to a member of Church Council for further details.

Interim Intentional Ministers, Karyn Burchell-Thomas and Gareth Thomas-Burchell provided Council with a Final Report, which was gratefully accepted. It contains guidelines for Council to continue following-up on recommendations in the Conflict Transformation Pro- cess Report.

Finance: Thanks to congregational generosity, ongoing diligence of the Finance Committee and Chief Operating Officer Kelle McNamara, our budgetary situation is quite positive. After extensive consideration and mindful of current financial commitments, it was decided not to increase Wesley’s contributions to the Presbytery and Synod at this stage. This matter will be kept under consideration.

Wesley Audio Visual Project: Following payment of 50% deposit, Ministry of Tech have indicated that, subject to the arrival of a speaker component from overseas, installation of the new system is proposed for the week commencing 7 August. Donations to the Special Appeal for funding this project currently stand at $40,000, with a target of $75,000. A cabinet maker has been found for building the desk.

Property: Thanks to the Property Management Committee for their ongoing diligence in documenting and prioritising work. We note completion of repairs to carpark surfaces. Work is progressing on repairs necessitated by the 2020 hail storm, possum trapping, dishwasher repair, air-conditioner repair and more. The attention of Office Staff to facilitat- ing work is also appreciated.

Wesley Music Scholars: Two voice scholarships have not yet been filled. If you know of anyone who would benefit from support toward their voice studies and understanding of liturgical music, please contact Jenny Dean, Chair of the Wesley Music Foundation or Di- rector of the Music Centre, Liz McKenzie for more information.

Wesley Music Foundation (WMF) Constitution states that the Board of Management should “consist of not less than five persons appointed by the Church Council, a majority of whom shall be members of or members in association with the Church”. Nomination Forms for three positions on the WMF Board are to be returned by 20 June.
