WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING 13 April 2023

Report to Congregation

The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) was formed on June 22, 1977, as a union of three churches: the Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia. The UCA is the third largest Christian denomination in Australia.

Wesley has scheduled a Combined Service at 10.00 am on Sunday 18 June to:

  • recognise that anniversary;

  • bid farewell to Revs Karyn Burchell-Thomas and Gareth Thomas-Burchell

  • welcome those who have joined our worshipping community during the last year.

Council moved a vote of thanks David Palmer for all his diligent work in moving the retained archives documents into the Youth Group Room, ably assisted by Glenda McDowall and Chris Chenoweth. From May 1 it is anticipated Lancaster Lounge will be accessible by a future hirer.

Council was very grateful to Simon Cowling and the Wesley Audio Visual Project Team for their extensive consideration of the many components of this work.

The meeting received a report based on the AV Team’s meeting with chosen provider, Ministry of Tech. All present were grateful to Sabine for her provision of mockup images which further broadened understanding of several questions.

Council approved expenditure of up to $75,000 for the Audio Visual project (this allows for a slight increase in costs) and the approval is for a range of improvements including 2 roll down screens with projectors, a TV monitor for the chapel, new cameras and sound desk.

We are reminded that our Special Appeal for funding this project is still open and any donations will be gratefully received.

A Vote of Thanks was given to Simon and the steering committee for all their work on this project over the past 2 years.

Council was pleased to affirm the appointment of David Evered as another member of the Wesley Property Management Committee.

Council received comments and positive feedback regarding Sunday Morning Teas.

A deal of consideration was given to the Timing of Worship Services. It was decided that we continue with the current 9.00 am and 10.45 am commencements, but will maintain a watching brief.

All venue users are reminded that for safety reasons, ramp access front and back is preferred rather than use of the ceremonial doors.

Attention is again drawn to the presence of a pink Suggestion Box at the Reception desk, the repository for any completed surveys and feedback. Any proposal further action is assisted if a name is included and suggestions are accompanied by researched resourcing of people or funds.
