Wesley Uniting Church Council Report to Congregation for 9 October 2025 meeting
Worship Services - It is always important to have calendars/diaries up to date
regarding worship and particularly in the next few months:
16 November - we will be privileged to mark 70 years since the opening of The
Methodist National Memorial Church which we now refer to as Wesley. Rev Peter
Walker will be the guest preacher. A number of previous ministers and parishioners
look forward to attending.
30 November - we will thank Rev Geoff and wife Gilda Dornan for their
contributions to our fellowship. As well as closure of ministry at Wesley, it is
anticipated this will be a closure of full-time ministry for Geoff.
A combined worship time of 10.00 am is scheduled for both, and each service will be
followed by a light luncheon. Please look for a chance to guide the catering team by
indicating your intention to stay for the meal.
As usual, the Advent season will carry a range of special events and the extra
opportunities to reflect musically will be advertised.
Each Sunday in January 2026 there will be one combined service at 10.00 am. Rev
Bruce Stevens is generously coordinating that worship roster.
Rev Daniel Mossfield and family will move into the Sydney St Manse after 1 January
with an allocated fortnight to settle in. We are to be advised by Presbytery of
the date and time for Daniel’s induction service.
Property Committee – this work is constant and ongoing:
Piper Kitchen cupboard doors have been upgraded - thanks to volunteers.
Quotes are now in hand for scraping and repainting of Vercoe Room north wall and
also the external doors to Lancaster Hall.
Dead trees on Fitzroy Street have been removed.
A termite eradication system in and around Wesley Hall has commenced. Particular
thanks go to Keith Hart and the Committee for organisation and communication.
Finance - As electronic giving is increasingly the norm, Council agreed to a
recommendation from the Finance Committee that facilities be made available at
morning tea for electronic donations, in addition to the long-standing ‘cash in a
dish’. When reviewing financial commitments and donations, please consider
increasing electronic giving to enable Wesley outreach and mission work.
