WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

on 13 February 2025

Report to Congregation

Wesley Profile for the Calling of the Next Minister: Council revised the draft profile after considering feedback from the Congregation. This revised profile along with a required five-year projection (2026-2030) of Wesley’s financial situation will be sent to the Joint Nominating Committee and then onto Presbytery. Thanks to those who offered comments on the draft profile and to Treasurer Robert James for providing the financial projection.

Nomination of Wesley for ACT Heritage Register: The church building, Wesley Hall/Vercoe room building, and the manse have been nominated jointly for possible inclusion in the ACT Heritage Register. A site visit requested by the ACT Heritage Council will occur shortly.

Upcoming Leave for Rev. Bruce Stevens: Council approved Bruce’s leave request for June 6-20, 2025.

New Car Park Lights Now Installed: As foreshadowed earlier in Council meeting reports and with apologies to Genesis 1:3, “ ‘Let there be [new, brighter, and energy efficient] light,’ and there was [new, brighter, and energy efficient] light.” Kudos to Property Manager Keith Hart for overseeing this project.

Making a Bequest to Wesley: Information on how to make a bequest to Wesley Uniting Church is currently being updated.

Some Words of Thanks: Council thanks those who nominated individuals and those willing to be nominated for the four vacant positions on Church Council and the two Wesley representative positions at Presbytery. In addition, Council is very appreciative of those who have submitted reports and the Church Office staff who have attractively presented them in the Parish Life 2024 Annual Reports

Election of Wesley’s new Council members and Presbytery reps and tabling of the Annual Reports will occur at the upcoming Congregational Life AGM on February 23rd

In attendance: Tarlie Alcock, Paul Chen, Jenny Dean, Keith Hart, Robert James, Jan Sismey (Chair), John Sutton.
