WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

12 September 2024

Report to Congregation

Councillors expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the

preparation and running of the Finance AGM on Sunday 8 September.

Gratitude was expressed for generous service by Susan Akhurst and Robert

James, in their roles as council members and office holders. Susan has

kindly agreed to be co-opted to Council until the February 2025 AGM.

Robert was re-elected for a term ending 3 years after the February 2025

AGM.

Minister in Placement, Rev Geoff Dornan has kindly advised that his final

Sunday will be 30 November 2025. It is understood 6 Sydney Avenue will be

vacated before Christmas 2025.

Geoff hopes to be able to take annual leave in January 2025.

Council has begun reviewing requirements for calling a new minister, with

input from a committee chaired by John Sutton; members, Brenda Neal,

Paul Chen, Tharu Tayshetye, Heather Hart, Sonia Di Mezza and Jan

Sismey.

Presbytery’s Pastoral Relations Committee have now begun the process of

forming a Joint Nominating Committee to be chaired by Rev Liz McMillan.

Property work continues. Councillors experienced new, brighter lighting in

the Vercoe Room. This will be a welcome improvement for many users.

Upgraded carpark lighting is on the way.

Electronic giving, offerings at worship services, alongside donations of

time and materials enable property, staffing, witness and service to the wider

community by the Wesley congregation.

It is noted that Wesley Music Centre Director Liz McKenzie is on leave

from Monday 9 September to 16 October. Advice as to WMC staffing roles

have been posted on the Wesley noticeboard.
