WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

10 October 2024

Report to Congregation

Supply Ministry 2025

Council agreed to invite Rev Bruce Stevens to continue in part-time supply ministry at Wesley until 31 December 2025. Gratitude is expressed to Bruce for his teamwork to date.

Rev Liz McMillan and John Cutts are the Presbytery nominated members of a Wesley Joint Nominating Committee. Both attended the meeting and kindly answered a range of timing and procedural questions.

Our congregation will in future need to identify approx 6 members for the Joint Nominating Committee. Please include this in your prayer list. An outline of what would be required of such representatives will be made available in future.

The valuable work of the profile drafting committee, ably chaired by John Sutton, was recognised. The committee is grateful for feedback received to date.

Office Staffing

Susan Akhurst, Paul Chen and Cindy Ong carried the majority of work required in advertising and interviewing to fill the Administrative Officer position.

We are delighted to have been able to offer this to Jo Yau. Jo will continue as Coordinator of the Wesley Playgroup.

As Cindy Ong will be on leave in November, Jo is capably tackling a steep learning curve. We are grateful to Kelle McNamara for offering to assist Jo on Thursday and Friday whilst Cindy is away.

Elders

An important component of our relationships and reciprocal care is provided by elders. Please pray for those currently working as elders and those considering whether to renew their terms. If you are aware of a member who might be considered for this role, please speak to Tarlie Alcock (Elders’ Facilitator) or Rev Geoff Dornan as soon as possible.

Alongside our care for each other, our individual maintenance of electronic giving and offerings at worship services, alongside donations of time and materials, enable our work in witness, staffing and community outreach.

CRISP offerings

Council approved the Community Refugee Support Pilot as a recognised mission outreach activity of the congregation. As the committee progresses foundational work please also include this initiative in your prayers.

In attendance: Susan Akhurst, Tarlie Alcock, Paul Chen, Sonia Di Mezza, Rev Geoff Dornan, Keith Hart, Robert James, John Sutton, Jan Sismey

Absent: Jenny Dean
