Catherine Lukin
Director of Music 

 

Catherine was offered a Commonwealth Scholarship to undertake a PhD in 1988 but declined in order to gain further experience as a performer and music educator. Catherine completed a Masters in Music with leading American vocal pedagogue, Norman Gulbransen (from the same studio as Marilyn Horne) on both choral conducting and vocal scholarships. Career highlights as a soprano soloist include working with Elena Kats-Chernin, performing lead role of Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide in Sydney, concerts with Premiere percussion ensemble Synergy Singapore and Melbourne. Catherine has played French horn with Mosman Symphony Orchestra, Balmain Sinfonia, NSW Police Band, Eskilstuna Symfoniorkester (Sweden) and the DePaul Wind Symphony (Chicago, USA)Catherine has held the position of Co-Director of Music with husband organist Brendon Lukin at Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church, Chicago Il, USA and Anglican Church of St Luke, Mosman. She has also conducted the Newcastle Conservatorium Strings and orchestras for musical productions of The Sentimental Bloke (Hornsby Musical Society) and, The Drowsy Chaperone  in Geelong.Her conducting skills were honed through studies with a protégé of Pierre Boulez, as well as Rear Lieutenant Norman Gullick (Former Head of all Australian Navy Bands) and Sir John Hopkins at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Brendon Lukin
Organist

 

Appointed Organist at Wesley in 2018, Brendon was an Allan Bellhouse Organ Scholar at Newington College (1986-1989).  He graduated B Mus from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, with a double performance major in organ and tuba.  At the Conservatorium, he studied organ and improvisation with the late David Rumsey and continued his studies overseas with Kimberly Marshall, Gillian Weir, Marie-Claire Alain and Professor Michael Radulescu.  He also studied improvisation in France with Professor Gérard Loisemant.  Brendon has received several prestigious awards including a Churchill Fellowship, and prizes at National and International Competitions on both organ and tuba.  He has held organist/choirmaster appointments in churches in Sydney and Melbourne, in Chicago whilst undertaking Masters degree studies, in Sweden and in Germany. Prior to taking up his appointment at Wesley, he was at St David’s Uniting Church, Newtown, Geelong.  Brendon has given organ recitals in many cathedrals and civic venues across Australia and overseas (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Chicago, Sweden, Germany).  He is a great improviser and has a keen interest in the Wurlitzer Theatre organ. Brendon is studying Theology at St Marks National Theological Centre and is a candidate for Ministry of the Word for the Uniting Church in Australia.
