Part of the Foyer

The Wesley Music Centre is a modern air-conditioned complex centred around the Music Room, which is designed specifically for small-scale chamber concerts, voice/choral recitals and recordings. It is also ideally suited to lectures, symposia, seminars, master-classes, workshops and similar events. The Foyer area (airconditioned) includes a kitchenette. Disabled access is provided.  There is ample free parking.

The Music Room has an audience capacity of 140. It has first class variable acoustics, professional recording and playback facilities, and a new Yamaha C6 7ft Grand Piano. Also available in the Centre is a 2-manual harpsichord (a copy of an 18th century Goujon in the Paris Conservatoire Museum). The harpsichord is tuned to the baroque pitch of A415. There is also a  classically registered electronic organ for practice purposes in the Tutorial Room. Organists have access to the historic Wesley Pipe Organ in the Church.

The complex includes 'green room' facilities in the Seminar Room (airconditioned) which has a beautifully toned Steinway 6-ft model "O" grand piano (white), gifted to the Centre by Colleen Rae-Gerrard, concert pianist and fortepiano expert, available for teaching or as a second concert grand piano, as required.

The two grand pianos and the harpsichord are only available for practice by booked performers.

The Recording Control Room 'Bio Box' uses permanent mics, playback monitors etc. with provision for future audio and video conferencing, data cabling for distance learning and other infrastructure for students and researchers. The recording facilities are also connected through to the Church for concerts held in the Church.

An aim of the Centre is to develop partnerships with educational and other organisations in fields of mutual interest.  The Centre was used, along with the Church and other spaces on the site, for regular National Ecumenical Seminars on Word and Music In Christian Worship.

The Wesley Music Foundation has developed a close relationship with ArtSound FM 92.7/90.3 who record and broadcast many of our music events. Joint ventures are being planned. Visit their web site for information about their growing activities and varied programs.

Each week, a two-hour session on "Discovering Music" is attended by an average of 80 members of the University of the Third Age (U3A). Many other U3A courses are also held in the Centre.

Musical events and activities in the Centre cover a wide spectrum and include lectures, workshops and seminars on key areas of sacred music. The aim is to promote music of varied styles for people of all ages and backgrounds, to encourage young people, provide music appreciation, development and therapy for all ages, and embrace indigenous music and music of all creeds and backgrounds with a comprehensive education and community program.

During the year more than 200 public events plus many hundreds more private activities are booked in the Music Centre (and Wesley Church).  The Music Centre maintains an email distribution list of over 600 people who have expressed interest in attending events.

Our application form gives full details of hiring charges and many other details. To download an Application to Hire the Centre click here.  Joint Ventures are also possible but need to be first discussed with the Director of the Music Centre.

Hirers (but not Joint Ventureres) are required to have Public Liability Insurance.  It you do not already have such insurance that will cover our site you can arrange cover by using this insurance application.
