Wednesday 15 February 12:40 - 1:20pm “Wednesday Lunchtime Live” concert.  Bradley Kunda (classical guitar) performing his PhD recital programme. The program includes selections from Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco Los Caprichos de Goya, Alexandre Tansman Variations on a theme of Scriabin, Heitor Villa-Lobos Preludes No.4 & 2, Toru Takemitsu “Rosedale” from In the Woods and Atanas Ourkouzounov Sonata for solo guitar.

Wednesday 22 February 12:40 - 1:20pm “Wednesday Lunchtime Live” concert - Duo Guadagnini.  Classical guitarists Adrian Walter and Bill Grose perform on period instruments.  The wonderful program includes Rossini Overture to Elizabetta, arranged by Giuliani, Carulli Duo in G, Mertz Two Duos for Standard and Terz Guitar and Giuliani Gran Variazioni Concertanti Op. 35. $2 or paper note entry.  Refreshments – gold coin.  Enquiries: 6232 7248.  Wesley Music Centre.

 

Sunday 26 February 3pm Art Song Concert 1 “Winter Journey” with Jeremy Tatchell (baritone) and Elena Nikulina (piano).  “Winterreise”- Franz Schubert's setting of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller in the crowning achievement of the German language song cycle repertoire.  Admission, including program and light refreshments. Wednesday 29 February 12:40 - 1:20pm “Wednesday Lunchtime Live” concert.  Alan Vivian (clarinet) and Alan Hicks (piano). The exciting program consists of Niels Gade 3 Fantasy Pieces Op 43, Wolfgang Thiel Rush Hours, G. Verdi Prelude Act 3 La Forza del Destino, Jean Françaix Tema con Variazioni, Béla Kovács Salute, Signore Rossini! Saturday 3 March 7pm and Sunday 4 March 4pm “Autumn Etampes” As part of the Canberra Festival 2012, Marcela Fiorillo (piano) will present a concert tribute to Debussy and Canberra Anniversaries.  Ms Fiorillo will perform works by Claude Debussy in celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth.  Also, in celebration of the 99th anniversary of Canberra, she will present the premiere of “Autumn”, a work especially composed by Marcela Fiorillo as a special tribute to the city.  Tickets available at the door.  Adults $30, Concessions $25, Students $20, Children under 12 free.  Price includes a complimentary glass of champagne.  Enquiries and bookings: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Saturday 10 March 6pm Co-Opera of South Australia presents works by Jeremy Beck, a highly acclaimed and much-awarded American composer.  Featured performers will be Julie Sargeant (piano), Karen Fitz-Gibbon (soprano) and Zoe Wallace (cello).  The program begins with Beck’s lyrical Cello Sonata No. 3, “Moon” followed by the feature composition for the evening, “Black Water”, an intense monodrama based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates.  This psychological fantasy is drawn from the infamous incident at Chappaquiddick in Massachusetts in 1969.  Ticket prices Adults $25, Concession $20, Students $10.  This program is not suitable for children under 12.  Enquiries: 0409 695 952.  Wesley Music Centre.

 

Sunday 11 March 3pm “Fortepiano Fest - an Afternoon with ‘Constanza’” featuring Colleen Rae-Gerrard on her fortepiano ‘Constanza’ performing Mozart’s A minor Sonata K310, along with other works by Haydn and Beethoven.  Colleen returns to Australia after six years in New Zealand to resume working with the ANU School of Music.  Her prestigious career as lecturer, accompanist, repetiteur and performer on piano, fortepiano and harpsichord has gained her international recognition.  Tickets available at the door.  Adults $20, Concessions $15, Students $10, children under 12 Free.  Enquiries: 6232 7248.  Wesley Music Centre

Saturday, 24 March 7:30pm “The Australian Guitar Duo”  Australia’s pre-eminent classical guitar duo, New York-based Rupert Boyd and Barcelona-based Jacob Cordover, will be making their only appearance in Canberra as part of an Australia-wide CD Release Tour.  The program will include pieces from their debut CD “Songs from the Forest” recorded in the UK in late 2011 including works by Granados, Falla, Lennon/McCartney, Scarlatti, Houghton, Westlake and Edwards.  Adults $25, Concession $20, students/children $10.  Info at www.australianguitarduo.com.  Enquiries This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sunday 25 March 3pm Organ Concert featuring Calvin Bowman, eminent Australian organist and Director of Music at Wesley Uniting Church from 1 February 2012, who has twice performed all the organ works of Bach in 17 hours will play an exciting all Bach program. He plays Toccata in F BWV 540 (includes the Fugue), Pastorella BWV 590, Vater unser in Himmelreich BWV 682, Christ, unser Herr, zum Jordan kam BWV 684, Nun freut euch, lieben Christen gmein BW 734, Fantasia super Christ lag in Todesbanden BWV 695, Concerto in d minor BWV 596 ( after Vivaldi op.3 Nr.11 RV 565) and Pièce d’orgue BWV 572.
